Detroit Diesel
Detroit Diesel began in 1938 as GM Diesel, producing compact diesel engines and generators for military vehicles and equipment. In 1988, after several years of focused production of heavy-duty diesel engines and a consolidation with the Allison Division, Penske Corporation and General Motors created Detroit Diesel.
Today Detroit Diesel is an affiliate of Daimler Trucks North America LLC and is best known for its industrial and marine diesel engines. The company prides itself on performance, fuel economy and reliability, no matter the engine or circumstances. The three modern Detroit Diesel engines range from the DD13, the smallest with 470 horsepower, to the DD15, the medium sized, 560 horsepower engine, and the largest, the DD16 for heavy loads topping out at 600 horsepower.
Detroit Diesel also produces diesel power units and generator sets. Diesel generators have long life spans and typically less required maintenance than other types of fuel generators. They are also known for being safe and reliable.
