Your safety plan includes a generator as the primary backup power source, ensuring your business is never left in the dark. But, do you know how your generator works and how to operate it? Don't forget that generator safety should also be a part of your safety plan. Here are a few helpful tips to get you started: - Take a few minutes to read the owner's manual. Ask a Depco representative to go over how to perform a quick visual inspection to look over the parts of your equipment. - Make sure that your generator is kept on a flat, stable surface so that it won't tip over. Keep your generator away from wood, dry grass and leaves and other flammable materials. - In wet conditions, generators can be dangerous, causing electrical shock or electrocution, so it's important to keep your equipment dry and out of the rain. - Do not use portable generators indoors, no matter how well ventilated the room is. Carbon monoxide levels can reach dangerous levels when generators are used inside buildings. - Turn the generator off and let it cool down before touching it or refueling it.
